The information below is designed to help nonprofit organizations understand whether their project is eligible for funding and how to apply. Grant Application Process/Timeline
The timeline below outlines each step of the Sam Viersen Family Foundation’s annual grant cycle, including key deadlines, review periods, and notification dates, so applicants can plan ahead and prepare a complete and timely application.
New Applicants
Before June 1 – Applicants should review the foundation’s funding priorities to ensure their project is a good fit. It is recommended that applicants contact the foundation before starting an application.
By June 30 – Applicants must submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) through the grant portal.
If the LOI is approved – The applicant will be invited to submit a full proposal.
By August 1 – Full proposals must be submitted online.
Late or mailed applications – Applications received after the deadline or by mail will not be considered.
August–October – Applications are reviewed, and additional information may be requested.
Early November – The board meets to determine funding decisions.
Mid-November – All applicants are notified of funding decisions.
By Year-End – Funds are distributed to approved grantees.
Returning Applicants
Before June 1 – Returning applicants receive an email from the foundation with a unique code to access their application.
June 1 – Applicants should verify receipt of the email and use their code to log in and begin the full proposal.
LOI Step – Returning applicants skip the LOI step entirely.
By August 1 – Full proposals must be submitted online.

August–October – Applications are reviewed, and additional information may be requested.
